A Beautiful Thing

One of my fav bands of all time (Gungor) released both a new CD/Album (yes – the vinyl kind!!) and a book this week. As if that isn’t enough to make it feel like Christmas even in this hot Florida October – they were in town this past weekend for a show. Happy girl?? Ohhhhh – beyond!

Of course hubby and I’ve had tickets since they first announced the show and I have been waiting anxiously ever since! We don’t get to hit that many concerts, so when we do we make them COUNT (like ya know start-up bands like Springsteen, etc – ha ha) and then we have our indie favs that are almost without exception singer/songwriters and they tend to have an Austin (as in Texas) affiliation…

Anyway – we both adore Gungor. And you can read Marc’s blog about why he does (http://www.MarcusEngelBlog.com) which is a fun take for a die hard rockandroll snob!

We get dwntown and it’s raining – and of course we are early and have to stand in line. Thankfully I had an umbrella.

(I told Marcus it was pink with flowers and butterflies all over it -he said he didn’t care… but he was totally  frontin’ – he cares – he just knew it wasn’t true!)

I confess – standing in line I started feeling very…. old & uncool! Where we were at Marcus was the only guy without gauged ears and funky glasses. I was the only girl NOT in jeans AND carrying a purse. And… it did even “smell” a bit like hipster! Just sayin’! Anyway I quickly got “over” it – (especially when I was carded not once – but TWICE – oh yah baby! that’s mE!)

The gig was at this cool venue downtown called The Beacham that we’d never been to before. It was very old and had that “character” that I love – exposed brick and great lighting etc. It reminded me of NYC – except it was also spacious – a word that does not typically describe anything in the Big Apple.

The show was everything we hoped – we could have stayed much much longer just soaking it all in. A perfectly awesome evening.

If you are looking for some good music – I can so highly recommend anything Gungor – and of course their latest album “a Creation Liturgy.”

I just finished the new book “The Crowd, The Critic and The Muse: a Book for Creators” and WOW! It’s already one of my all time favs! You can get it for kindle at Amazon – or from  www.GungorMusic.com website – but get it! It is soooo worth the read.

Before I go I want to tell you about one of my favorite moments of the evening. The band was singing “Crags and Clay” and it gets to this soft, intricate part where voices and instruments blend together – and the lyrics just transcend the medium and it’s like they soak into your skin and wrap around your heart… and just surround you and leave you feeling truly washed away in love and peace… As I sat there, so at one with the moment – I really wanted to share the experience with each of you.

With all my heart, i desire for you to feelfearfully and wonderfully and beautifully made.

To know that the Creator looks at you – and finds YOU beautiful. Right now. Today. You are not alone. You are not without hope. You are not shameful. The Creator – adores you. You are loved.

“Crags & Clay”

Standing up from crags and clay, The peaks of earth, In full display
They break the lines, That break the sky, That’s full of life, Full of life

The chaos of creation’s dance, A tapestry, a symphony
Of life himself, Of love herself, It’s written in our very skin

All praises to the one who made it all, Who made it all
All praises to the one who made it all, And finds it beautiful

Soil is spilling life to life, Stars are born, To fill the night
The ocean’s score, The majesty, Of sculpted shore, Mystery

Fearfully and
wonderfully and
beautifully made…

You are
fearfully and
wonderfully and
beautifully made…
