hang on a minute…

500 square feet. the whole entire apartment – bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, living space, closets… 500? the hotel room i stayed in last week was 600! okay. so.  this is going to be a challenge.

let me think about this.  it will be fun right? see how simply we can live for a year. i mean, how much of this ‘stuff’ we surround ourselves with do we really need?? okay yah. it will be fun!

and we have doorman! i mean like – all the cool kids have one don’t they?? the ones on tv shows and movies set in NYC.

i keep picturing it being some tall, military type who wears an immaculately pressed wool coat with brass buttons and a furry hat… oh wait… that’s the queen’s guard isn’t it… shucks.  still – someone very strong and impressive looking and he will greet me each time i walk into the lobby with “hello mr. trump!”  okay. that’s not quite right either… but it sounds really fun!

500 sf.  i’m pretty sure my current closet is bigger than that.

oh, and the mortgage on our 3500 sf home is only slightly more than the monthly  rent!

but – i get a doorman! whatever that means – i get one!

it’s gonna be cool —– right?!?

We have a place!

okay so we just got word that we have secured an apartment! it’s all a bit more real! when the call came in, we wrote down the address frantically – almost like we were afraid it would disappear! then we began jumping around like monkeys!  this is real!! and we WILL move in just a few weeks! on the down side – they don’t have a floor plan to send us, and we had to sign the lease w/o seeing the place. move in day will be our first peek.  confession: that causes the control freak in me to totally spaz out. have to not think about that too much… yah right!

we have precious little info, but here are the few details we have:

~ in Manhattan, upper West Side & Harlem

~ 500 sqf

~ it’s a couple of blocks from Columbia U

~ one bed / one bath

~ 5th floor WITH an elevator (thank God!)

~ a 24 hour doorman

~ a stove and a refrigerator, but no A/C (what?!?!  I’m from Florida – we would DIE w/o AC!)

okay. i have waaaay more questions than answers… but i’m getting used to this idea!!

in the beginning…

It’s official – my husband Marcus was accepted into Columbia University’s Grad program. In less than a month we will be packing our bags (3suitcaseseach) and moving to our brand new apartment in Manhattan. Sight unseen (pun intended – I think). Not a stick of furniture. Just the two oh 3 of us. Of course Garrett is coming along

It feels very surreal right now. Just a few years ago I had never even visited NYC. It immediately became one of my fav cities of all time!

As my mom reminded me today.. “Remember your first trip to New York? You looked around Times Square and said ‘I want to live here one day! Remember that?”

Yes. Yes I do.
